A practice focus paper which describes the Beginnings of Sustainable futures in the Minds of Preservice teachers through a hands on project building their understandings of community and local schools (Figure 1). Through these experiences, the preservice teachers and the school students that they interact with, authentically learn about their local environment and proactively build sustainable futures for themselves and the community.
